We are lucky to have some highly qualified coaches within the club as well as in the local area we can access. The aim is to expose you to a variety of coaching styles and get you to a high level of proficiency, in a safe environment.
A level 3 coach who has been involved in the sport on and off over 3 decades. Has set up several clubs including Chiswick Pier Canoe Club and Edge Progressive Paddling. Main interest is kayak surfing but also like playboating and sometimes running rivers. General canoeing experience includes sea kayaking, canoe polo and slalom. Paul has also set up with the help of others, canoeing pool sessions at 4 swimming pools in West London.
Level 2 coach who has coached on the Thames for 4 years. Dan has been paddling on the Thames Tideway since 1998 and on whitewater from 2002. Ran many of the classic whitewater rivers as a child and in playboats including the Etive, Tryweryn, Findhorn, Dart, Socha and various alpine rivers. Main interest is freestyle but also surfs and has played polo at junior league.
Level 1 coach, currently undertaking Level 2. Whilst whitewater river running is his main interest, he has also competed in slalom, and has general experience in playboating, sea kayaking, canoe polo, river racing, kayak surfing and open canoeing. He is involved in coaching a slalom team for the London Youth Games and looks forward to nurturing new and old paddlers in the sport, with a passion for helping disabled and underprivileged young people.
Level 1 coach and Head of Physical Education at Phoenix High School. Has introduced kayaking to large number of students at this West London school as a curricular and an extra curricular activity. Some students have gone on to develop their skills through the club and are beginning to take level awards.
Has been involved in the setting up of Hammersmith Blades from the start. Level 1 coach, keen to progress her coaching skills, however this will need to be later in the year, as she is expecting in June! Enjoys sea kayaking most of all, but living in London, is more frequently found on the Thames, and when possible on whitewater and sea kayaking trips further afield.
A level 1 coach, level 2 trainee. Involved in canoeing for 5 years. Started voluntary coaching at Brentford Boating Arch and helped to set up the Schools / Youth programme in Hammersmith in 2009. Main interests are playboating and kayak surfing. Also competed in rowing for his university. Has experience working with different abilities and ages. Noted for his calm manner and ability to learn quickly.
Level 2 coach. Started paddling in 2008 and in the first 2 years became a solid whitewater paddler with Edge Progressive Paddling. Main interests are surf and freestyle. Can often be found on Thames Valley weirs or playing polo in the canal at Brentford.
